1. Reflections Committee Volunteers Needed

Every year students from Whittier compete in the Reflections competition which awards the artistic talent of students on a regional, state, and national level.  There is a very strong need for volunteers to serve on the council level for the Reflections committee.  If your child enjoys this program or might be interested in the future then please read the volunteer duties below and consider donating your time for this important competition. To date the council has only one volunteer but is in need of at least 3 more to keep this program successful.  If interested contact Gina Stark @ dgptacouncilpresident@gmail.com

4. Host An Experience!

Looking for a way to support the PTA?  Host a Whittier experience!  Contact Melissa Rausch if you are interested in hosting an experience this year!  Melissarausch@sbcglobal.net

Whittier Experiences are a crucial component to PTA fundraising that offers students and families an opportunity to sign up for fun events throughout the year!  Past experiences include Running Club, After School Kickball, The Amazing Race, Movie Night and Cake Decorating.

Host families come up with an idea, and once approved they plan, organize and fund the event.  The PTA Experiences  Committee  will promote the event at the Jaguar Jog and Whittier families will sign up.  All registration fees for the event go to the PTA to help provide the amazing programs students enjoy all year long!

5. Fun Lunch

One of the most anticipated parts of school for kids and parents alike occurs every other Friday when the PTA sponsors a Fun Lunch option. That’s right. Every other Friday, you won’t have to send a packed lunch from home (unless you wish to). Instead, you can choose a special lunch for your kiddos from a varied menu offered from a different local restaurant each time. You pre-pay for the entire semester (there are 7 dates this semester) and then just sit back and relax on Fun Lunch days. Trust me. It’s a joy to get a reprieve from creative lunch packing twice a month.

6. Join the PTA

Get a start on the upcoming school year – you can join the PTA for 2018-2019 now! You will get access to our NEW online directory with your paid membership. This year we will be using DirectorySpot which includes a website with various features and download/search capabilities, as well as an app for your iPhone or Andriod device. URGENT:  If we do not have a volunteer to chair Young Rembrandts then we will no longer be able to offer this class.  Please read the commitment details below and consider volunteering your time!

Young Rembrandts:

Young Rembrandts is an original, step by step method to teach children drawing, the fundamental skill of visual arts. Children who learn to draw using the Young Rembrandts method develop spatial reasoning and fine motor skills, ordering and sequencing ability, visualization and fundamental art skills. The volunteer will assist the Young Rembrandts teacher and will track attendance of the student attendees.

Estimated Time Commitment: 1 hour per week after school on Tuesdays, 1 hour per session


Looking for a PTA member to act as the liaison between the school and Chess Scholars for session scheduling and information. One PTA parent volunteer must also be present each week during chess in order to assist with attendance and overall supervision (this volunteer receives a 50% on tuition for their child).  In the event of the parent volunteer being unable to attend class, the chair must either step in as the volunteer or arrange another supervisor.

Estimated Time Commitment: 1 hour per week after school as volunteer (if desired), 1 hour per session as chair

Spring Fundraiser:

Members of the Spring Fundraiser committee set the time and place of the event and secure said time and place early in the school year. From there, volunteers plan and prepare logistics of the event, distribute communications regarding the event, solicit donations, and coordinate with the experience committee. You will also need to organize volunteers to set up, run and clean up after the actual event.

Estimated Time Commitment: Moderate based on the details of the event.

Math and Science Fun Nights:

The chairs for these family fun nights at school plan the activities for each session (such as science experiments and math challenges), secure volunteers to ensure the night runs smoothly, write up directions for each activity, and purchase supplies. They also send out evites to the Whittier families. Typically, there is one math and one science night per year, and such a fun night for families to attend!

Estimated Time Commitment: A few hours (early planning) / Significant (the week of the event)
