Whittier Weekly – May 5, 2020

We hope this note finds all of our Whittier families well and in good health! Please see below for some important announcements from the PTA.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Please refer to the attached flyer for an overview on how we are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week this week!

Whittier Garden

It is May and time to start planting the Whittier School garden. Last year with your help, our garden was a huge success allowing us to donate tons of fresh produces to the Peoples Resource Center Food Pantry in Westmont.

Once again we looking for families to help water and weed the Whittier Garden throughout the summer. Duties would include visiting at least TWICE each week to water (hose will be available and soon new rain barrels) and weed (bring your own garden gloves). We would love to fill each week with at least one family but have two slots in case your family’s availability is limited. Please click on the link to sign up for a week or two or three.  Reminders will be sent prior to your scheduled week, and it is a good idea to add it to your personal calendar.

New this year, we are also looking for 5 families to prepare and plant 1 of the 5 garden beds any day during the week of May 17th.  Soil and compost will be available at the garden, and Mrs. Gergits will drop the seedlings and a planting map off at your home beforehand. You choose the day and the time that is convenient for your family.

We had such a great response last year, we am hoping for the same this go around. To sign up to plant the garden and to check up on the garden follow this link.

If anyone is interested in co-chairing the Whittier Garden, or taking a more active role, reach out to Christy Gergits at cgergits@dg58.org
